Where should your dish point?

Sky and Freesat come from the Astra satellites at 28.2° east, so every dish in East Anglia looks south-east. The exact angle changes from town to town.

Satellite dish installation done properly

A satellite dish looks simple, but a reliable picture depends on precise alignment, a sound fixing and good cable. Digitel UK installs and repairs satellite dishes for Sky and Freesat across Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. We align every dish with a satellite meter, so you get the strongest possible signal and the margin to keep watching through a downpour.

Sky and Freesat both come from the Astra 2 and Eutelsat satellites at 28.2° east. From East Anglia that means a dish pointing roughly south-east with a clear line of sight, free of trees, chimneys and neighbouring buildings. Because East Anglia sits close to the centre of the satellites' footprint, a standard small dish works well almost everywhere. Larger dishes are only needed in unusual cases.

Our satellite services

New dish installation

We fit new Sky and Freesat dishes on walls, chimneys, poles and ground mounts, choosing the position that gives the best signal and looks tidiest. Every installation includes a new LNB, weatherproof connectors and cable run to where you need it.

Dish moves and realignment

Building an extension, fitting solar panels, having the roof redone or moving into a new home? We take the dish down, refit it in the best new position and realign it with a meter. A dish knocked by wind or roofers can often be realigned in one short visit.

Multi-room and extra points

We feed extra Sky or Freesat boxes in bedrooms, kitchens, extensions and garden rooms, with the right LNB and neat cable to each room. For larger homes we design distribution so every box gets a strong signal.

Repairs and LNB replacement

No signal messages, missing channels and pictures that break up are usually caused by a failing LNB, water in a connector or a damaged cable. We test each part and replace only what has failed.

Freesat or Sky?

Freesat gives you over 100 subscription-free TV and radio channels through a dish, with no monthly fee. It's a good choice where aerial reception is poor, in remote villages for example. Sky is a subscription service that also needs a dish, unless you choose one of its broadband-only products. We can install, move or repair the dish for either and set up your box, so you're watching before we leave.

Conservation areas, listed buildings and flats

Many East Anglian towns, from Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury to Norwich, King's Lynn and Saffron Walden, have large conservation areas and many listed buildings. In a conservation area you usually can't fit a dish on a chimney, wall or roof slope that faces onto and is visible from a road. Listed buildings normally need consent for any dish. We find compliant positions at the side or rear, below the roofline or on a discreet ground mount, and talk you through the rules before we start.

In flats, leases often restrict private dishes, and many blocks already have a shared dish or integrated reception system (IRS). We check what's in place and connect your flat to it where possible. We can also repair or extend the shared system for landlords and managing agents.

Coastal and exposed homes

On the coast at Felixstowe, Clacton, Southend, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, and across the open Fens, wind is the biggest cause of dish problems. Even a small movement knocks the dish off the satellite. We use rigid brackets, stainless fixings and sealed connectors so the dish stays put.

The kit we fit

Offset dishA solid, Zone 1 or larger dish on a rigid bracket, aligned with a meter and locked off.
Quad and octo LNBsFeeds for extra Sky or Freesat boxes, so every room gets its own signal.
Wideband LNBNeeded for Sky Q. Two wideband feeds carry every channel to your main box.
Heavy-duty bracketGalvanised wall and pole brackets for exposed roofs, so wind doesn't knock the dish out of line.
MultiswitchFor blocks of flats and big houses: one dish feeds dozens of outlets.

Are you Sky engineers?

We're independent satellite installers. We fit, move, realign and repair dishes for Sky and Freesat, add feeds for extra boxes and replace faulty LNBs. New Sky subscriptions are arranged with Sky directly.

Why does my Sky signal go in heavy rain?

Rain weakens the satellite signal slightly. A dish that is perfectly aligned has plenty of margin and keeps working; one that is a fraction of a degree out, or has an ageing LNB, loses the picture. Realigning with a meter usually fixes it.

Do I need planning permission for a satellite dish?

Most houses can have a standard-size dish without planning permission, but limits apply. In conservation areas you usually can't put a dish on a chimney, wall or roof slope that faces and is visible from a road, listed buildings need consent, and flats are often covered by the lease. We advise on a compliant position before fitting.

Can you hide the cables?

Yes. We route cable neatly along existing lines and can run it internally where the building allows.
