Local engineers across East Anglia

All our engineers are local, and each one has expert knowledge of the area they cover: which transmitter serves which street, how the coast and the Fens affect a signal, and the planning rules in each historic town. Between them they cover the coast at Felixstowe and Lowestoft, Norwich and the Norfolk Broads, the Fens around King's Lynn and Downham Market, Cambridge, and the Essex towns from Colchester and Chelmsford down to Southend and the Thames. We work in every major town in Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, and in the villages in between.

Each town above has four local pages, for TV aerials, satellite dishes, CCTV and TV wall mounting. They explain how reception works in that town, the problems we see most often there and the nearby areas we cover.

Why reception differs so much across the region

Few parts of the country are served by as many different TV transmitters as East Anglia. Which one your aerial should point at depends on where you live:

  • Suffolk and most of Essex are served by the Sudbury transmitter and its relays, carrying BBC East and ITV Anglia.
  • Norfolk and north Suffolk are served by Tacolneston, south-west of Norwich, with relays at Norwich, Gorleston, Lowestoft, Thetford and King's Lynn.
  • Cambridge and the west, including Newmarket, Haverhill and Saffron Walden, can use Sandy Heath in Bedfordshire.
  • South-west Essex, including Harlow, Epping, Loughton, Brentwood and Thurrock, usually looks to Crystal Palace in London for BBC London and ITV London.

Along the borders between these areas, households can often choose which regional news they receive by where the aerial points. We measure what's available at your property and set the aerial up for the most reliable picture.

Coast, countryside and historic towns

The landscape shapes our work as much as the transmitters do. On the coast, from Harwich and Clacton to Southend, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth, salt air and wind call for stainless fixings, rigid brackets and sealed connections. In the Fens and the Breckland, homes can be many miles from a mast, so high-gain aerials and taller poles are common. Historic centres such as Bury St Edmunds, Norwich, Colchester, King's Lynn, Saffron Walden and Cambridge bring conservation areas and listed buildings, where aerials and dishes must be placed with care.

New towns and fast-growing estates, in Haverhill, Harlow, Basildon, Chelmsford and Kesgrave, bring their own jobs: blocks of flats with communal TV systems, new-builds that need extra TV points and data cabling, and homeowners wanting CCTV and video doorbells from day one.

Find your local page

Choose your county above for a table of every town we cover with its postcodes and main transmitter, or pick your town from the full list. Can't see your area? Get in touch; there's a good chance we cover you.

Local pages for every town

We've written separate pages for each town because reception, housing and the problems we see really do change from place to place. A seafront flat in Southend, a thatched cottage near Sudbury and a new-build in Kesgrave need different aerials, fixings and advice. Each page gives the main transmitter, any nearby relay and the regional news it carries.

If you're between two towns, choose the nearest one; the advice on its page will apply to you too.
