TV, satellite and security across Essex
Essex is one of the busiest counties we cover, from the market towns of the north to the commuter belt, the new towns and the Thames estuary in the south. We install and repair TV aerials, fit and realign Sky and Freesat dishes and design CCTV, alarm and access control systems for homes, landlords and businesses across the county.
Two TV regions in one county
Essex is split between two TV regions, and the dividing line runs through some of its biggest towns. Sudbury, just over the Suffolk border, serves central, north and east Essex, including Chelmsford, Colchester, Braintree, Witham, Maldon and the Tendring coast, with BBC East and ITV Anglia. Local relays at Wivenhoe Park, Clacton, Burnham-on-Crouch and Rouncefall, near Ashingdon, fill in areas where the main signal is weak.
Crystal Palace in south London serves much of south-west Essex, including Harlow, Epping, Loughton, Chigwell, Waltham Abbey, Brentwood and Thurrock, with BBC London and ITV London. Between the two, in Basildon, Billericay, Wickford, Rayleigh, Southend and Canvey Island, both transmitters can often be received, and households may choose their regional news by where the aerial points. The right answer depends on your street, roof height and what's in the way, so we measure both before deciding.
The Thames estuary and the coast
From Southend, Leigh-on-Sea and Canvey Island to Clacton, Frinton, Walton and Harwich, Essex has a long and exposed coastline. Wind and salt air take a toll on aerials and dishes, so we use stainless fixings, sealed connectors and rigid brackets. Low-lying areas such as Canvey Island are open to wind from every direction.
New towns, flats and estates
Basildon and Harlow were built as new towns after the war, and Chelmsford, Braintree and Witham have grown fast since. Many homes are in blocks with shared aerial systems, so we repair and upgrade communal TV and door entry for residents, landlords and managing agents. On newer estates, we add TV points, data cabling and CCTV for homeowners.
Historic market towns
Saffron Walden, Colchester, Maldon, Great Dunmow, Halstead and Old Harwich all have conservation areas and listed buildings. We take care with fragile chimneys, find discreet positions for dishes and follow the rules on what can face the road.
