Which transmitter serves your town?
East Anglia is fed by five main TV masts. Pick your town to see which one your aerial should point at, how far away it is and which regional news it carries.

TV aerial installation and repair you can rely on
A good TV aerial installation should give you every Freeview channel, in HD, on every TV in the house, in any weather. That depends on three things: pointing the aerial at the right transmitter, using the right aerial for your signal, and keeping water and interference out of the cable. Get any of those wrong and you see pixelation, frozen pictures and channels that come and go.
Digitel UK has installed and repaired TV aerials across East Anglia for over 25 years. We cover every major town in Suffolk, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, with local engineers who know each area's transmitters and housing. Each job starts with a signal meter, not guesswork.
Which transmitter serves your area?
East Anglia is unusual because homes here can receive Freeview from several different main transmitters. The right one for you depends on your town, your street and even the height of your roof.
- Sudbury serves most of Suffolk and Essex, from Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich down to Chelmsford and Colchester. It has relays at Ipswich Stoke, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Clacton, Wivenhoe Park, Burnham-on-Crouch and Rouncefall.
- Tacolneston, south-west of Norwich, serves almost all of Norfolk and north Suffolk, including Lowestoft and Beccles. Its relays include Norwich Central, Gorleston, Thetford and King's Lynn.
- Sandy Heath in Bedfordshire serves Cambridge and parts of west Suffolk and north-west Essex, such as Newmarket, Haverhill and Saffron Walden.
- Crystal Palace in south London serves much of south-west Essex, including Harlow, Loughton, Brentwood and Thurrock, and brings BBC London and ITV London regional news.
Relay transmitters usually broadcast with a different polarisation from the main masts, so an aerial pointed at a relay is mounted differently. We check which signal is strongest and cleanest at your property before fitting anything. Your town's page shows the local details.

Common TV aerial problems we fix
Pixelation and breaking-up pictures
Usually caused by a weak or noisy signal. The most common culprits are a corroded connector, water inside the coaxial cable, an aerial knocked out of alignment by wind, or a failing masthead amplifier. We find which one it is with a meter.
Lost channels after a retune
If some channels have disappeared, your aerial may be picking up a weaker transmitter, or an older aerial may not cover every frequency now in use. Sometimes a correct retune fixes it. Sometimes the aerial needs realigning or replacing with a wideband model.
4G and 5G interference
Mobile networks use frequencies close to Freeview. Near a phone mast, an unfiltered aerial or amplifier can be swamped, so channels drop out at busy times. A filtered aerial or a filter at the amplifier usually cures it.
Storm damage
Bent poles, loose chimney brackets and snapped elements are common after winter gales, especially on the coast and the open Fens. We make the installation safe, replace damaged parts and fit stronger fixings where they're needed.
What every Digitel UK aerial job includes
- Signal strength and quality measured at the aerial and at every TV point
- High-gain or 4G/5G-filtered aerials where your location needs them
- Low-loss, double-screened cable and weather-sealed connectors
- Distribution amplifiers for homes with several TVs
- Every TV retuned, with Freeview Play and catch-up apps checked
- A tidy job, with cables clipped neatly and old equipment removed
Listed buildings, flats and rural homes
Older chimneys can be too weak for a large aerial, so we use lighter brackets, wall mounts or loft installations where they give a good result. In blocks of flats we repair and upgrade communal aerial systems, so a whole building gets a reliable picture. For isolated farms and villages a long way from a transmitter, we use high-gain aerials, taller masts and low-loss cable.

Call 0800 151 2978How do I know if I need a new aerial?
Pixelation, missing channels or a picture that breaks up in wind or rain can be caused by the aerial, the cable, an amplifier or interference. We measure the signal at the aerial and at each socket, then tell you what has actually failed. Many jobs need a repair rather than a new aerial.
How long does a TV aerial installation take?
Most domestic installations take two to three hours, including fitting, alignment, cabling and retuning every TV. Larger homes with several TV points, or jobs needing a new mast, can take longer.
Can you add a TV point in another room?
Yes. We run neat cable to bedrooms, kitchens, extensions and garden rooms, and fit a distribution amplifier so every point gets a strong, even signal.
Do you set up TVs and set-top boxes?
Yes. We tune and set up TVs, Freeview Play boxes and recorders, and check catch-up apps are working before we leave.
